Igor Martak (1988)
Igor Martak graduated the R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music (Ukraine) with honours. From 2010 to 2013 he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and in 2013 in frames of Erasmus programme studied with Krišjānis Norvelis at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. In 2010 he attended international masterclasses in frames of Antonin Dvorak festival in Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic). Since 2012 he is a student of the renowned Latvian teacher Margarita Gruzdeva.
During his studies, Igor performed the role of Oracle in Gluck’s Alceste and participated in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Vienna State Opera; he also performed the role of Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen at the Klagenfurt Opera Theatre. He has given recitals at the Vienna Russian Culture Centre. In 2012 as a soloist he was invited to record a CD I Sing to My God with the Vienna Orthodox Church Choir.
In 2009 he won the 1st prize in the International Singing Competition Silver Bell in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. In 2011 he received the 3rd prize in the International Ferruccio Tagliavini Singing Competition in Deutschlandsberg, Austria. In 2015 he won the 2nd prize in the Inese Galante Talents Competition.
In July 2014 Igor participated in the Cēsis Arts Festival with a programme of S. Rachmaninov’s songs.
Currently he is a member of the Latvian National Opera Choir and with this collective has toured China (Macao), Oman (Muscat) and Germany (Berlin).
