Competition Regulations

  1. Competition Regulations

1.1.   Pianists born after October 7, 1993 and no older than 30 years of age on the Competition opening day are eligible for participation in the Competition;

1.2.   The Competition is divided into three rounds;

1.3.   The Competition takes place at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (hereafter – the JVLMA), address: Krišjāņa Barona iela 1, Riga, LV-1050, Latvia, the participants of the third round play the competition program together with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra in Liepaja Concert Hall "Lielais dzintars", Radio Street 8, Liepāja, LV-3401;

1.4.   All pieces have to be performed from memory;

1.5.   The Competition shall consist of three rounds;

1.6.   Each participant shall prepare a programme in accordance with the Competition repertoire. The selected programme should be stated in the application form;

1.7.   All rounds of the Competition are open to the public;

1.8.   The order of participation shall be determined by drawing of lots on 7 October at 6 p.m. at the JVLMA. The same order shall apply to all rounds of the Competition. If the competitor or his/her authorized representative fails to attend the drawing of lots, he/she shall be disqualified.

2. Application Process

2.1.   The Competition organizer reserves the right to publish information about the competitors indicated in the application form and its appendixes (except their passport data), their publicity photos, as well as Competition results.

2.2.   Applications for participation in the Competition (hereafter – applications) must be submitted by 20 August 2023 by filling the electronic application form HERE and sending additional materials to:;

The application must be accompanied by:

• copy of passport or ID card,

• high quality photo in JPEG format,

• a payment order confirming the payment of the participation fee.

2.3.   The applicant shall transfer the participation fee of EUR 80.00 (eighty euros, 00 cents) by 20 August 2023 HERE.

2.4.   The application must be accompanied by a video recording of at least 10 minutes - one virtuoso etude and free choice piece (s) - link to the website with the participant's video. (These videos are not published);

2.5.  Applicants who have not transferred the application fee by 20 August  2023 are not eligible for participation;

2.6.  The application fee shall not be reimbursed;

2.7. The organizer reserves the right to limit the number of participants and request additional information about the applicants. The list of competitors shall be published on the Competition website; competitors shall be notified about their participation via e-mail by 5 September 2023.

3. Other Provisions

3.1.   Competitors shall cover the travel and accommodation expenses themselves. The organizer shall provide a list of its partner hotels.

3.2.   Organizers will cover the hotel expenses for the participants of the 3rd round from the evening of October 11 to the morning of October 15;

3.3.   The competitor shall produce a valid passport or ID card upon registration to confirm his/her date of birth;

3.4.   The organizer reserves the right to record and broadcast and to authorize other parties to record and broadcast the competition and the prize winners’ concert on radio, television and the Internet. The organizer has exclusive rights to audio/video recordings and productions, as well as unlimited rights to authorize public performances or broadcasts, as well as public archiving of this recording. The competitors are not eligible for remuneration related to any of the aforementioned activities;

3.5.   The official languages of the Competition are Latvian and English.
