    Daniils Mickevičs from Latvia emerged as a winner of the Jāzeps Vītols International Piano Competition

    Daniils Mickevičs from Latvia emerged as a winner of the Jāzeps Vītols VIII International Piano Competition, which took place from October 7 to October 14 in Riga and Liepaja.

    Along with the win, Daniils Mickevičs was awarded a 5,000-euro cash prize and a special prize - a scholarship for master classes at the "Feuerwerk" International Piano Academy in Einbeck, Germany.

    This weekend, the final concerts of the Jāzeps Vītols VIII International Piano Competition will take place in Liepaja at the “Great Amber” Concert Hall. Six best young pianists together with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra conducted by Atvars Lakstīgala will play the piano concerts of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Prokofiev, and Sergei Rachmaninoff

    Pianists are welcome to apply by August 20 for participation at Jāzeps Vītols 8th International Piano Competition, which will be held in two solo rounds at the Great Hall of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) and the final round together with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra at the Liepaja Concert Hall “Great Amber” already in October this year. This is a great opportunity for young pianists. Several winners of previous competitions have already become recognized artists in Latvia and abroad. more

    Jāzeps Vītols 8th International Piano Competition announced

    This is a great opportunity for young pianists. Several winners of previous competitions have already become recognized artists in Latvia and abroad.

    Players whose age does not exceed 30 years on the opening day of the competition (born after October 7, 1993) can participate in the competition. Application - until August 20, 2023.

    Jazeps Vitols International Piano Competition rescheduled to 2022

    The organising committee of the Jazeps Vitols International Piano Competition announced today that the 2021 competition will be rescheduled to the autumn of 2022. The decision was made jointly by the organising committee, the administration of the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music and the Competition’s sponsors, after careful consideration of the ongoing uncertainties regarding travel and performance restrictions, and their likely extension into 2021.

    Grand Prix to Aleksand Kashpurin

    The intense and emotional week of Jāzeps Vītols 7th International Piano Competition has come to its close. The “Grand Prix” and 3000 EUR sponsored by the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation were awarded to the 21-year-old pianist Aleksandr Kashpurin from Russia who also received the prize for the best interpretation of Jāzeps Vītols’ music and an invitation to collaborate with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.

    Finalists are Announced

    Jazeps Vitols 7th International Piano Competition Finalists are:

    Iļja Domņins (Latvija) 
    Aleksandr Kashpurin (Russia) 
    Darya Koval (Belarus) 
    Marina Kan (Norway) 
    Anton Yashkin (Russia) 
    Rihards Plešanovs (Latvija)

    Two evenings of the competition final will be held on the 1st and 2nd of November at 6pm in Liepaja's concert hall "Great Amber". All 6 piano concertos will be performed with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gintaras Rinkevičius. In the final we will hear F. Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 21 in F minor, F. Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1, S. 124 in E flat major, S. Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 in C minor, S. Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 30 in D minor and S. Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 16 in G minor.

    The concerts will be broadcast by the Latvian Radio 3 Klasika.

    Awards Ceremony and Gala Concert will be held on the 3rd of November at 7pm at the "Great Amber" hall.
