The Mozart, Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff piano concerts will be played in Liepaja this week.
This weekend, the final concerts of the Jāzeps Vītols VIII International Piano Competition will take place in Liepaja at the “Great Amber” Concert Hall. Six best young pianists together with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra conducted by Atvars Lakstīgala will play the piano concerts of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Prokofiev, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
On Friday, 13 October, at 7 p.m., the Lithuanian pianist Edvin Švaikovski will play the Mozart Piano Concerto No 21 with an orchestra, while the Lithuanian pianist Mantas Šernius and the Ukrainian pianist Mykita Burzanitsa will each play the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3 with an orchestra.
On Saturday, 14 October, at 7 p.m., the Malaysian pianist Julian Chan will play the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 3, the Latvian pianist Ērika Jākobsone will perform the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3, and the Latvian pianist Daniils Mickevičs will play the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 2.

The Jāzeps Vītols International Piano Competition is the most ambitious event in Latvian piano art, and it has become an important part of the Latvian musical life.
This year, the contestants will be evaluated by an international jury: Ivari Ilja from Estonia, Juris Žvikovs and Toms Ostrovskis from Latvia, Niklas Pokki from Finland, and Zbignevas Ibelgauptas from Lithuania.
Such well-known and popular Latvian pianists as Juris Žvikovs, Sanita Šablovska, Jānis Zilbers, Toms Ostrovskis, Raimonds Petrauskis, Elīna Bērtiņa, Andrejs Osokins, Arta Arnicāne, Antoņina Suhanova and Iļja Domņins have also been among the laureates and award winners of the competition. This year Latvia will be represented by eight young pianists.
